I have always LOVED birthdays… I love the excitement of a new year to come – celebrating with family and friends – and of course… presents. I love all birthdays – not just my own. There is nothing more rewarding than surprising a friend or loved one with something they love on their special day. I already can’t wait to shower my sweet Annabelle with surprises and gifts for a whole week before her birthday every year.
My birthday is this Tuesday, September 24th. It is going to be a strange birthday – mainly because I am pregnant, home alone all day, and not going to be enjoying any of my favorites (champagne or wine). It is also the last birthday I will ever have feeling like a kid (I know that ended years ago for some of you, but in my book – no babies meant I was still a kid). Next year I am going to be a Mom.
I didn’t know what to ask for for my birthday this year. With two baby showers this month, plus buying a new house, how I could I really make a wish list that wouldn’t result in me looking like a greedy brat. Also, I know there are things I NEED – like a baby bag or maternity clothes – and then there were things that I want – like a Fuschia Longchamp. That brings me to a question that I have to ask you all…
Screw practical! Being a grown-up and a mom means getting YOU gifts! The rest of the year can be practical… Happy {early} Birthday!
I think a birthday and Christmas is the perfect time to ask for something completely impractical that you maybe wouldn’t spend money on yourself.
I’m just like you about birthdays! I celebrate mine for a whole month (get ready January, you aren’t that far away). I think that when you are a mom it’s even more important to ask for something for YOURSELF on your birthday, since you typically things are always about baby!!
I’m so glad to hear that other people love birthday as much as I do! Have an awesome day! Let people celebrate YOU… last one with no kids!

I always try to ask for things I want. Because as a mom, I’m constantly buying the practical things for Leah and our family that I forget about myself and the “little things”. Like, getting my hair done, a pedicure, a cute top. I honestly havent bought a new purse in over a year and up until recently, same thing with shoes. So, go for it!
Screw practical – it’s your birthday – the one day you can sound like a selfish brat and no one will Judge!! LOL!! I found out I was preggo 4 days before my bday party this year – that made it very interesting. While I celebrated my bday with my hubs with my fave cocktails, not knowing or suspecting I was pregoo . After the fact it made me think about how different my next one will be with a 4 month old!! So crazy!!!
This reminds me exactly of how I felt when I turned 27 this year. I realized this would be the last birthday I would have childless. Even though I was close to 20 weeks pregnant, I know it definitely isn’t the same as actually having a child. It was bittersweet, a teeny tiny bit, but my pregnancy actually overshadowed any feeling of lose of self, because I’m becoming a mother.
Enjoy your birthday, have fun, and continue to embrace your pregnancy and little Annabelle in there. She’s gonna be here in no time. Trust me, I know I due in just a few weeks. Feels like the blink of an eye!
I still for fun things. Just because your a mom doesn’t mean that you have to always be practical. If you do that, you may feel like you are losing a bit of who you are. I do ask for practical things, too, though. Like last Mother’s Day, I asked for, and received, a blender. It was something I really wanted and needed.
I think when it is your birthday anything is fair game. It is the one day you can act like a complete brat without any judgement. You will have plenty of time for the “practical” things.

The real question is…can you stop asking SANTA for gifts?!
Oh never. Santa will NEVER not get a typed Christmas list from me… in October.
I can’t believe you’re almost due! Thanks for sharing that with me – I have been thinking a lot about becoming a Mom and its overwhelming!
Yep, due date’s right around the corner! Your welcome, I know exactly how you feel! I’m pretty overwhelmed myself. 🙂
