And this is why I don’t bake… I tried to make these Apple Pie Cookies and it was a disaster.
So where did I go wrong? Perhaps my first mistake was not reading the directions in detail before I began. When I cook something new, I usually skim the recipe and then make it my own. Apparently you cannot do this with baking. There is a reason someone takes the time to write out a step-by-step recipe with exact measurements of each ingredient.
Next mistake: I don’t know how to make a lattice pattern on a pie, nevermind cookies.
The above photo should have looked like this….
I knew that there was no way I would be able to use a cookie cutter on the hot mess that I made, so I decided to bake the whole thing. And that was a bad decision. I should’ve thrown in the towel and fed what I had to the birds. I baked the “Apple Pie Sheet” for 25 minutes and it was soggy, so I baked it for another 15 minutes, and it was still soggy. So I let it cool and cut a piece. ….
Did I mention I opted to not use the caramel sauce? That ingredient should never have been eliminated because the ‘cookie’ was dry and bland.
Apple Pie Cookie = FAIL
If you would like to attempt to make these delicious treats, check out Oh Bite It! That girl knows what she is doing. And I wish she would send me some of her cookies because me and Annabelle are craving apple pie…
I had a HUGE cookie fail the other day. All I was trying to do was make normal chocolate chip cookies, but they came out (TWICE) in a big blob covering the whole cookie sheet. I’m still not sure what went wrong…
I will probably have the exact same outcome you did, but I am definitely going to try these! They look so delicious!!!
Hahahahaha I loved this it so reminds me of why I don’t bake cakes. If you remember Mommy always bought them the few I baked lacked much! But thanks for the afternoon laugh Love you Mom!
It was a disaster. And i was sad b/c all I want is apple pie! And pumpkins!
Please let me know how yours turn out!
Sounds like my stint with cookies….I end up eating whatever I make because I’m too embarrassed to give them to people.
Haha oh no!! Sorry about that fail, at least you got a good blog post out of it. 🙂
It’s the effort that counts!

I just made these tonight! I ran to Wal-Mart after work, after I read this, to get the Ingredients! My husband loved them! I wish I had made my own crust tho, it has a much better flavor, and is light and flakier than Pillsbury’s! Thanks for posting! (and I JUST learned out to make a lattice top when my grandma was in town last month, and I’ve been baking since I was 12!)
Aww, at least you tried, that is all that matters! If it makes you feel any better I can’t make a lattice top either. It is a learning experience, next time it will be better =)
xx
This story sounds way too familiar. Every time I bake something new I follow the recipe to a t and perfect it. Then, when I try it again I get a little arrogant and don’t follow the recipe, which always leads to a fail.
I literally LOL’ed at this! I’m so glad you posted this!
I can bake for you when I visit. I like baking 🙂
Haha I’ve had a few baking disasters!
