As the days and nights become chillier with the changing of the seasons, not only do we need to adjust our wardrobe choices, but also how we take care of our bodies. I’ve always been prone to dry skin, especially around my lip area during the cold months of the year. It’s hard to find an actual lip balm that keeps them moist though, as it seems most store bought tubes of chapstick end up drying my lips out even more.
Applying lip balm daily is as important, if not more, as applying moisturizer to your face or body on a regular basis. Our lips lack moisture producing glands, so they can become dry, cracked, or chapped very easily. My friend Kim from Middlesex Dermatology saved my lips this season when she introduced me to LipLuxe, a locally made product by MizziCosmetics. LipLuxe lip scrub, lip balm, and lip gloss are a trio everyone should have in their handbag year-round. LipLuxe products are made with essential oils and natural emollients, on a non-petroleum, non-toxic & vegan base.
Here’s how to care for your lips during the winter.
Step 1: Exfoliate your lips daily.
Do you find that you have chunks of dead skin on your lips after applying lipstick? Do you wake up in the morning with painful cracking along your lip line? If you exfoliate your lips daily, you’ll find your lips to be smooth, supple, and soft. In both morning and night, apply a small amount of scrub to your lips in a circular motion for at least 30 seconds. Allow the scrub to sit on your lips so the essential oils and emollients are absorbed. Wipe your lips clean with a warm wash cloth.
Step 2: Apply lip balm regularly.
Step 3: Use lip gloss daily.
In a day and age where everyone wants to appear on the youthful side, it’s important to keep your lips exfoliated, hydrated, and glossy.

My son gets the worst chapped lips. He calls himself the joker when it starts to spread out past his lip line. Hahaha. This stuff looks great though! I may need to try it out for myself!
