Preschool graduation has come and gone with a lot less pomp and circumstance than I anticipated. Annabelle has been in preschool since she was three and a half years old when we moved to Connecticut. We love her preschool because the teachers are kind and loving. Annabelle’s preschool experience was crucial to her readiness for Kindergarten!
In my mind I imagined lots of tears, but the ceremony was so quick. I spent most of it trying to see over the top of people’s heads I didn’t have much time to cry. The preschool graduates sang a variety of adorable songs I wish I had been able to video tape. “You Are My Sunshine” brought tears to my eyes as I’ve sang it to Annabelle and Ailey every night before bed since they were born. They also walked in and out of the church to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” which always makes me emotional.
Preschool is absolutely necessary preparation for Kindergarten readiness.
Even though Annabelle averaged just three days of school a week, she learned so much in that amount of time. The 9-3 schedule helped to prepare Annabelle for a full day in Kindergarten (away from Mom).
At Annabelle’s preschool, the curriculum focused on phonics, reading comprehension, science, and math. There were also daily lesson in Religion and lots of art activities. Annabelle can identify every letter in the alphabet, as well as most of the letter sounds. She can count to 100, do basic addition, and tell you all about the stories from the Bible. From lessons on rocks to ocean life to the circle of life, Annabelle discovered a love of Science.
Motherhood goes by so quickly… not only is it hard to believe Annabelle is heading off to Kindergarten in a few months, but I also feel like I was sharing Back to School tips for parents yesterday. Now here we are preparing for the summer!
