Did you know Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors – for you and for ticks? Personally, I think ticks are the worst part about summer. They are small, unnoticeable, and carry the power to put you at risk for Lyme disease. Wondering how to protect your family from ticks? With the following tick prevention tips and details about Orkin Pest Control’s Tick Control service, there is still time to protect your family from ticks this summer and fall.
Why You Need to Worry About Ticks
Whether your property is wooded or not, ticks may be waiting patiently to attack a person or pet that passes by, and a tick bite can put you at risk for Lyme disease. In fact, there are reports that as many as 75% of Lyme disease cases originate from ticks found around the home.

I’ll never forget the first time my Dad was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, a few months after he unknowingly contracted the horrible infection. For way too long he felt flu-like symptoms, plus excessive fatigue, muscle and joint pain, plus a lingering headache. In up to 80% of Lyme infections, a rash is one of the first symptoms, which my Dad experienced but didn’t recognize as a threat. He finally went to a doctor and learned he had Lyme Disease. However, if Lyme Disease is untreated with antibiotics immediately, symptoms will linger and my Dad is still suffering periodically from arthritis a few years after his diagnosis. I hope my children never have to experience Lyme Disease.
How to Control Ticks
Ticks are hard to control because they live in areas with dense vegetation such as in woods and where there are a lot of bushes. Tick infestations can go unnoticed until they show up on pets or people. The best way to control ticks in your yard is to PREVENT their existence.
Tip 1: Keep grass trimmed short, remove tall weeds and eliminate leaf litter and other debris to reduce tick hiding spots.
Tip 2: Ticks can’t fly or jump but they do crawl, so protect your body! Wear appropriate topical tick repellent when outdoors or near wooded areas.
Tip 3: When returning indoors, inspect your pets, your visitors, family members and yourself for ticks. Pay special attention to checking in and around ears, underarms, behind knees and other areas where your clothes may be in close contact with your body.
Tip 4: Treat your yard with a Tick Control Service from Orkin Pest Control. Get $50 off your initial Tick Control treatment purchased on Orkin.com with promo code NOTIX.

Orkin Tick Control Service Information
Orkin Pest Control is a fantastic service providing Tick Control for families around the country. We are using Orkin Pest Control for Mosquitoes and Ticks this summer so our family and friends can enjoy time outdoors.

Here is how the Orkin Tick Control Service works:
Step One – Receive a Free Tick Inspection on your home and yard. In addition to looking for current infestation problems, a certified Orkin Man will check for ideal spots that may encourage ticks to hang out, like heavily wooded areas, tall grass, or even areas with high moisture.

Step Two – Implement Orkin Tick Control
During your first Orkin Tick Control treatment, you remain indoors while the Orkin Technician applies the special solution to your property. The treatments Orkin uses are approved and regulated by the EPA, and Orkin technicians are specially trained to use them.
Step Three – Consider A Year-Round Solution (Monitor)
After the first treatment, your Orkin Technician can create an ongoing tick treatment plan, as well as give advice on how to help keep ticks at bay. Because of the weather changes, your tick treatment may have to be reapplied periodically based on your area and unique home.

We are currently receiving Orkin Pest Control treatments from June to September. There is an extreme level of comfort knowing my children can run and play in our yard freely. I still check for ticks every time they come indoors though. We found a tick on Ailey once this summer after she played at a friend’s house. I’ve been encouraging my neighbors to get their yards treated for ticks by Orkin Pest Control, to help protect themselves and pets from tick-borne illnesses.

Thanks for the tips We are being treated now!
Luckily we don’t have a ton of trees around my house so I don’t think we have to worry about ticks, but I would LOVE to get rid of all the pesky mosquitos!!
My brother had lyme disease when he was younger and we didn’t notice until his knee swelled up like crazy. They had to drain it and he had pain walking for months after. But he’s fully back to normal now years later. Crazy what a tiny tick can do!

We’ve been pretty luck this year with keeping the ticks at bay – thanks for sharing your tips! One issue we’ve been having has been with hornets – the heat this summer makes bug control a bit trickier than it was last year.
I feel kind of clueless about ticks so thanks for the helpful info! That sounds really serious what your dad went through.
I’m so sorry to hear about your dad! Ticks always frighten me- we used to find a ton on our dog but we don’t let her near the woods anymore.
